How fair shares work

Each member has a contribution share. Their fair share of the month is that percentage of everything spent.

Instead of splitting every expense one by one, Traxpend splits the month. Each member has a contribution share — a percentage. When the month closes, each person’s fair share is their percentage of the total spent by the space.

Setting shares

In the app: Members → Contribution shares
  • Shares must add up to exactly 100%.
  • Use equal shares (50/50, 33/33/34) or weight them — by income, by room size, or however your space agrees.
  • New members join with a 0% share until an admin updates the split.
admin

Only admins can change contribution shares, so the split can’t change without the people who run the space.

Example: 60/40 proportional split

Consider a couple where Partner A earns ₹60,000 and Partner B earns ₹40,000. Under an equitable 60/40 contribution split, if total household bills come to ₹50,000 for the month, Partner A’s fair share is ₹30,000 and Partner B’s fair share is ₹20,000. Traxpend calculates this automatically regardless of which credit card or bank account actually paid the invoices during the month.
