# Settle up in the fewest payments

> See who’s ahead and who’s behind, then clear it all with as few transfers as possible.

On `Settlement`, each member’s balance is **what they paid** minus **their fair share**. Positive means they’re owed money; negative means they owe. Traxpend then routes the money so everyone is even in the fewest transfers.

## Paying each other back

- **UPI / QR** — for spaces in rupees, open the payment in any UPI app or scan the QR.
- **PayPal.me** and **Venmo** — open a pre-filled payment link.
- **Bank transfer** — copy the details and pay however you like.
- **Mark settled** — record a payment that happened outside the app.

## Closing the month

When everyone has paid, an admin closes the month by typing `CONFIRM`. Closed months move to the cycle archive, so you can always look back.
