# Admins, members and removing people

> What admins and members can each do in a shared space, how to change someone’s role, and how to remove someone safely.

- **Members** add expenses, vote, chat and see the shared ledger.
- **Admins** can also invite and remove people, set contribution shares and close the month.

## Removing a member

Path: Members > Member > Remove from household

An admin opens the member and chooses `Remove from household`, then confirms. Settle the month first if they still have a balance.

## Transferring space ownership

If the primary space creator is moving out or handing over household management, they can promote any existing member to Admin status from the Members panel. Spaces can have multiple active admins.

## Departing members with open balances

Before removing a member who is moving out, navigate to Settlement and ensure their remaining balance is marked as cleared. Once removed, their past transactions remain preserved in the ledger to maintain historical accuracy for tax and budgeting records.
