# Scan a receipt

> Snap the bill and Traxpend reads the total, the shop and the date — then fills in the expense.

*The scan reads the TOTAL — not the subtotal or tax lines.*

## How it works

1. **Attach**: On `Add Transaction`, take a photo with your camera, choose an image, or drag one in. Files up to 5 MB.
2. **Read**: A vision AI reads the receipt image the way a person would — store name, date, line items and totals.
3. **Pick the total**: It takes the **final amount paid**, skipping subtotal and tax lines, and drops currency symbols.
4. **Fill the form**: Amount, date, a short note (“Groceries at FreshMart”) and the closest of **your space’s categories** are filled in. Check them and save.

## If you already typed an amount

Traxpend never silently overwrites you. If the receipt’s total differs from what you entered, it shows both and asks which one to keep.

## Tips for a clean scan

- Lay the receipt flat in good light and fit the whole bill in the frame.
- Make sure the total line is sharp — that’s the number that matters.
- If a scan can’t be read, the receipt stays attached and you can enter the details yourself.

## The Receipt Vault

Every receipt, warranty or bill your space attaches — photos or PDFs — is kept together in the Receipt Vault, so it’s there when you need to return something or claim a warranty.

> **Pro:** Scanning works when adding any expense. The **Receipt Vault** page, which collects them all, is part of Pro.
